How Drone Mapping Works (In Plain English)
You don't need to know anything technical to get a lot out of your maps. Here's the whole idea, start to finish.
The short version
A drone flies a planned pattern over your property and takes hundreds or thousands of overlapping photos. Our software lines those photos up — finding the same rock, tree, or corner in dozens of shots — and rebuilds your property as accurate, measurable data. You then open it all in your web browser through a private link. There's nothing to download and nothing to install.
The steps, from flight to your screen
- We plan the flight. Based on your site's size and shape, we lay out a flight path and handle any airspace authorization (the FAA's LAANC system) before we ever leave the ground.
- The drone captures the property. It flies a grid and, for 3D, additional angled passes, photographing everything with heavy overlap. One flight covers roughly 2,000 acres; larger properties are stitched seamlessly from multiple flights.
- We process the imagery. Software matches the photos into a single, geographically-accurate reconstruction of your site. This is where the photos become a map you can measure, not just pictures.
- We check the quality. We review the outputs before they go live so what you see is clean and correct.
- You explore it in a browser. Everything lands in your private viewer as interactive tabs.
The kinds of results you get
You don't have to choose all of these — your quote is built from the ones you actually need. In plain terms:
- 2D Aerial Map (orthomosaic) — a razor-sharp, perfectly-flat top-down map of your whole property (about 1–3 cm per pixel). Unlike a normal photo, every point is in its true position, so you can measure real distances and areas right on it.
- Photoreal 3D Model (digital twin) — your property rebuilt as a textured 3D model you can spin, tilt, and fly around. The master record for operations, marketing, and planning.
- Point cloud / LiDAR scan — millions of measured 3D points. This is what sees the bare ground under tree cover, so it's the go-to for terrain, drainage, and precise volumes.
- Elevation & terrain — a surface model with contour lines for slope, drainage, and grading.
- Ground-View 360 walkthrough — Street-View-style panoramas taken at eye height, pinned right onto your map, so you can 'stand' on a trail or midway and look around.
- Cinematic flyover video — an edited aerial pass, great for marketing and listings.
All of it lives together in one viewer, and every piece is just a link you can share.
Why it beats a plain photo or a satellite image
- It's measurable. Draw a line or a polygon and get a real distance, area, or volume — accurate to about a centimeter, roughly 25–50 times tighter than a handheld GPS.
- It's current. Satellite imagery can be years old and coarse (often ~50 cm per pixel). Your flight is from this week, at 1–3 cm per pixel.
- It's shareable. Send a private link to a partner, buyer, crew, or the whole board. They open it in a browser — no software, no account gymnastics.

What it is not
Our maps are engineering-grade mapping — extremely accurate for planning, measuring, and documenting. They are not a legal boundary survey.
